Why DO YOU MENTOR OTHERS?

In a nutshell, my desire is to share with you the journey I'm on and what I've done to take my business from "rural cowboy wife with a camera" to a successful traveling wedding photographer. I learned the hard way through trial and error and my desire is to share with you the lessons I've learned and the tools I've used that I WISH someone would have told me at the very start.

What skill level do I have to be?

Mentorship is available to all skill/business levels. I have mentored people who have been in business 10 years who are feeling "stuck" and I've mentored people who have not yet launched their business but are wanting to be prepared before they make the jump.

WHAT WILL YOU TEACH ME?

Prior to your mentorship session you will complete a detailed questionnaire regarding your current skill level, main areas you struggle with, etc etc. Based on your answers we will customize your mentor session to focus on the specific areas most needed to grow YOUR business.

All mentorship sessions will contain information on:

  • Gear, Software and Resources
  • CODB & Calculating Pricing
  • Discovering your Focus/Niche
  • Attracting Ideal Clients & Marketing
  • Booking Clients & Contracts
  • Preparing for a Session
  • Lighting & Posing
  • Post Processing (editing) Workflow
  • Blogging & Website SEO
  • Using Social Media
  • Image Delivery & Product Sales
  • Time Management
  • Back-Up Routine

HOW LONG IS A MENTORSHIP SESSION?

The actual in-person mentorship session is a really packed 8 hours where a lot of information is covered. Because of that, there is a 1 year follow-up period where, should you wish to, you can schedule 1-2 hours monthly of phone checkin/follow-up conversations.

Also,  it can possibly be arranged to split the mentorship session into the afternoon of the one day and the morning of the next. (Depending on schedule & availability.)

When/WHERE DOES A MENTORSHIP TAKE PLACE?

Availability is limited and books fast. You can ask to be placed on a waiting/cancelation list.

Mentorship sessions can take place in Albuquerque or (everyones favorite) Santa Fe, New Mexico. You are responsible for your own travel/lodging/meal expenses.

Should I be traveling to your area for shoots/weddings I can sometimes (not always) work in a mentorship session while I am there.  Additional lodging/travel fees may apply.

Will you teach me camera basics?

You can come to me with any skill level and I will never refuse to answer your questions.

However, a mentorship session is going to focus more on the business side of things. While I will show you what equipment I own and use as part of my business, it would be ideal/beneficial if you already own professional equipment and have a general handle on how to use it.

If you wish, I am more than happy to point you in the direction of the best learning resources (paid and FREE) and give you a list of techniques and skills you can look up on your own. Sometimes it's just a matter of knowing keywords you need to look up!

WIll you show me EXACTLY how you edit? Can I have your presets?

I am more than willing to give you a rundown of my post processing workflow! How much time we spend/don't spend on this topic will depend on which areas you wish to focus on. (See "What will you teach me?")

You can not have my exact presets, but I can show you where I got my presets, how I customize/apply them and where you can buy your own.

WILL YOU TELL ME WHERE YOU OrDER PRODUCTS? What you charge? or if you snore?

Yep! I have no secrets! Investing in a mentorship with me guarantees that I will answer ALL your questions. The good. The bad. The ugly.

What if I'm only interested in learning to shoot ranch lifestyle, Not weddings/portraits?

While there are daydreams, hopes  and plans for hosting a working-ranch lifestyle photography workshop....it is not yet something I've had the time to set up or pursue. Maybe 2018?

At this point, the focus of a mentorship session is going to be on growing/building a portrait or wedding business.

CAN't I just come to "your" ranch?

So we are "just the ranch hands" out here on a ranch owned and operated by an amazing 5th-Gen family! I totally get why you would want to come out here. However, out of respect  for the ranch owners' privacy, I do not host workshops, shoots or mentorships here.
